Our cruise began and finished in Seattle, so we spent a couple of nights there staying with Brian and Sue Lee, who we met through Ben and Anna. On the Sunday afternoon after our cruise we went cruising around Seattle with Sue’s parents. It was a beautiful sunny day and so many people were out on the water, so it was a great little taste of the city. We spent the rest of the evening wandering around downtown Seattle.
The next day we visited the Boeing factory in Everett (just north of Seattle). It was a really interesting tour, the scale of the production is amazing. It is the largest building in the world, and they hold a few world records for different aspects of their operations. About 30,000 people work in their Everett site. Anyone up for purchasing a new plane? I think it was a 747 starts at around $330million list price (USD), and that doesn’t include any fitout or seats or anything...
In the afternoon we visited the huge Cabelas outdoor/hunting store in Lacey (about an hour outside of Seattle). It is a pretty amazing shop, we could have spent an awful lot of money there if we had it to spare!
In the evening we met up with Roz Patterson and Mike in Tacoma (just south of Seattle) where Roz is currently living. It was great to see them again, especially since we will miss seeing them when they are back in NZ for their wedding.
