Our main goal in Vancouver was to buy a van and get it set up as a camper. Thanks to Craigslist (an online classifieds site) we eventually managed to do that, as well as checking out the city in the meantime (trying to pick up a futon bed from a 7th storey apartment in downtown Vancouver was interesting!) and spending a day at Whistler.
Justin did some downhill mountain biking for the day in Whistler – 40km of downhill in about 4 hours. I just got a sightseeing pass since my mountain biking skills are not quite up to that sort of riding (or even riding along a flat bike path for that matter), and then discovered that the ski fields are still open and I could have spent the day snowboarding (my snowboarding skills are just slightly better than my mountain biking, but not much!). It was a perfect spring day, with heaps of people skiing in short sleeves and some even in shorts! Kinda cool that you could go mountain biking in the morning and snowboarding in the afternoon by catching the same gondola...
Vancouver itself is a really nice city – definitely one of the most livable we have been through so far. It would have been nice to stay longer! On Friday night we hired tandem bikes and rode round the sea wall with Ben & Anna and a few of their friends. Riding around the sea wall is apparently a classic Vancouver activity for tourists and locals, and there were so many people out biking and rollerblading since it was such a nice evening. On Saturday Anna had organised a kayaking trip at Deep Cove in North Vancouver, so we met a bunch of their friends and had a great afternoon there before heading down to Seattle to begin our cruise.
